Roadway improvements are underway at Charlotte/Douglas International as Pease provides civil engineering design services to relocate a portion of Airport Drive along the eastern boundary of the airport.
Scope of work includes relocation of roadway and two stormwater retention basins; realignment of more than 1,000 feet of roadway right-of way; redesign of an existing intersection involving new turn lanes, signals and traffic control; and regrading of more than 1,500 feet of roadway to improve sight distances. The design of 30-foot-high structural engineered retaining walls is included along with a new parking and drop off center, accommodating 50-plus cars, for corporate employees, officials and pilots. The center provides access to a new corporate office and attached storage hangar also designed by Pease.
This complex project involved the coordination and cooperation of more than eight local and state agencies and relocation of major stormwater, water, sewer, gas, telephone and fiber optics utilities. Within the project corridor, the City of Charlotte has proposed and designed water system improvements consisting of a new 72-inch-diameter water transmission pipeline to serve the entire southwest region of Charlotte.
“The personnel at Pease Associates respond to our needs and we’re not easy to work for. We operate in a difficult environment . . . This makes it challenging for an A/E firm.”
